The James J. Peters VA Medical Center , (also known as Bronx Veterans Hospital ), is a hospital complex of the US Department of Veterans Affairs located at 130 West Kingsbridge Road, The Bronx. Opened as US Veterans Hospital no. 81 on April 15, 1922.
Prior to the creation of Veterans Bronx Hospital, this site was used by the Sisters of Charity of New York as Bronx Roman Catholic Orphan Asylum.
The Bronx Veteran hospital was renamed after James J. Peters in 2002. Peters, a US Army veteran, was a patient of the Bronx Veterans Hospital who founded several organizations to address the needs of spinal cord injuries (SCI), including the United Spinal Association (Originally known as the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association).
The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is the headquarters of the New York Veterans Integrated Service Network/New Jersey VA Health Care Network ("VISN 2"). This network is also a master network to the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System.
The Fisher House Foundation built two Fisher homes in the James J. Peters VA Medical Center yard in 2018.
The campus is under the jurisdiction of the United States Veterans Affairs Police.
