Histori
In 1951, the Metropolitan Detroit Rehabilitation Institute was established at Herman Kiefer Hospital in Detroit. It was also the site of the Metropolitan Detroit Polio Foundation, which joined the Rehabilitation Institute in 1953. Both partners soon realized that they needed their own buildings to accommodate all of their services. As a result, in 1958, the Rehabilitation Institute moved into a newly built hospital at its current location at 261 Mack Avenue, in Detroit.
