Robert Lee Edwards, III (born October 2, 1974) is a former NFL and CFL who ran back. Originally composed by the New England Patriots, he also played for the Miami Dolphins and Montreal Alouettes before ending his career with Toronto Argonauts.
He is the older brother of retired Winnipeg Blue Bombers who has retired Terrence Edwards.

College career
Edwards is a feature that re-collaborated at the University of Georgia. He was originally recruited to play cornerback, where he became a starter through his second year. After that season, he converted to run back. As a run back he set a Bulldog record to score five goals in one game against the University of South Carolina.
Throughout his career at college, Edwards was vulnerable to injury. He has never completed a full season in college due to knee problems, and missed a full year because of a broken hand that allowed him to get a redshirt injury for that season. Although he succeeded when healthy may draft his stock down because of the status of a constant injury.

Professional soccer career
National Football League
Edwards was chosen by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,115 yards for the Patriots in the 1998 National Football League season, before blowing his knee at a rookie NFL football match in Hawaii during the Pro Bowl week. Edwards almost escaped the wound without his leg amputated beneath his knee, and he was told he might not be walking again.
Edwards will not play football again until 2002, when he returns with Miami Dolphins. In his first game back, against the Detroit Lions, Edwards caught a goal pass and ran for another score. He spent the rest of the season sharing his third back task with fellow defender Travis Minor. After the season, he lost his place on the list for Leonard Henry. Edwards was awarded the Pro Football Writers Association Halas for his comeback from his serious injury. Edwards holds the record for consecutive games with a touchdown to start a career. He had one rushing touchdown in each of the first six games and additionally received a touchdown in Game 5 against Kansas City Chiefs]] in the 1998 rookie season with Patriots. The record was matched on November 12, 2015, when Buffalo Bills raced back Karlos Williams to catch a 26-yard touchdown bait from Tyrod Taylor.

Edwards joined Alouettes Montreal from CFL in 2005, and was the team's main rusher, running over 1,000 yards every two seasons he played in Montreal. In addition to being the main rusher of Montreal Alouettes, Edwards twice named CFL Eastern Division All-Star (2005, 2006). On August 18, 2007, Edwards was released by Alouettes. He was picked up by Toronto Argonauts a day later.
On January 31, 2008, Edwards was released by Argonauts.

In 2009, Edwards returned to football as head coach at Arlington Christian School in Fairburn, Georgia.
On 19 April 2012, Edwards was appointed as the new head coach of Greene County (Georgia) Tigers. He succeeds Charlie Winslett, who is currently number seven on the Georgia All-Time Winningest Soccer coach list. On January 30, 2018, he was named the new Head Chief coach at Riverwood High School in Sandy Springs, GA.
