The hip adductor muscle is a group of muscles most commonly used to carry a joint thigh (called adduction).

Structure

The adductor group consists of:

  • Adductor brevis
  • Adductor longus
  • Magnus adductor
  • The minimus adductor This is often regarded as part of the magnus adductor.
  • pectineus
  • gracilis
  • Externus obturator and is also part of the medial thigh compartment

The adductors originate from the pubic bone and ischium and insert mainly on the posterior surface of the medial femur.

Supply of nerves

Pectin is the only adductor muscle innervated by the femoral nerve. The other adductor muscle is innervated by the obturator nerve with the exception of a small portion of the adductor magnus supplied by the tibial nerve.

Variations

In 33% of supernumerary muscle people were found between adductor brevis and adductor minimus. Currently, this muscle originates from the top of the inferior ramus of the pubis from which it runs downwards and laterally. In half of the cases, it inserts into the anterior surface of the insertion aponeurosis of the minimus adductor. In the remaining cases, it is either inserted into the top of the pectineal line or the posterior part of the lower trochanter. While similar to the neighboring adductors, it is formed by the separation of the superficial layer of the externus obturator, and thus not ontogenetically associated with adductors.

Clinical interests

Tenotomi

The adductor tenotomy is called (cut the tendon from the thigh adductor muscle) and the obturator neurectomy (cutting the anterior branch of the obturator nerve) is sometimes performed in children with cerebral palsy. These children often have hypertonia in the adductor muscles, making abduction difficult, blocking normal pelvic development, and putting them at risk of hip attachment.
