Ware was born on January 3, 1993, in the Bronx, New York, to Lisa Junior and Kevin Ware, Sr. Ware grew up with three sisters: Donna, Brittney, and Khadijah. Ware and his family moved to Atlanta when he was 14, but shortly afterward, they moved to Rockdale County, Georgia, so the family could live in "more quiet areas." Scout and Rivals.com include Ware as a four-star prospect of a possible five stars, while ESPN gives it a 92/100 rating. He has a broken hand in July 2010. Ware has signed a letter-of-intent with Tennessee, but changed his mind after Bruce Pearl was fired as Tennessee basketball coach. The options are to Georgia and Louisville before choosing Cardinals.

College career

In his first season, Ware played in a limited time. In the second year, the minutes began to rise as Louisville's first keeper from the bench to lighten Peyton Siva or Russ Smith. Ware has disciplinary problems, however, and Rick Pitino stops him for the game against Pittsburgh. Upon return, Ware production and minutes increase for the rest of the season. In consecutive games at the NCAA tournament, Ware wore a career high of 5 assists against Colorado State, then scored a career high 11 points against Oregon.

Injuries

On March 31, 2013, in the first half of the Elite 8 match against Duke, Ware suffered an open fracture in his right leg that protruded several inches from his shin. Players and coaches in both teams looked shaken at the sight of injury. While lying on the court floor, Ware repeatedly said, "I'm fine, just winning the game." After being treated on the court for a few minutes, Ware was taken on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The surgeon inserts the stem into his tibia in a two-hour operation. In the show of the players dedicated to Ware, Louisville defeated Duke 85-63. When the game ends, Louisville forward Chane Behanan wears a Ware jersey to show solidarity to his teammate.

Many NBA players show their support for Ware and share their sympathy via Twitter, including LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant. Former NFL defender Joe Theismann and former Louisville Cardinals ran back Michael Bush, both of whom had suffered the same injuries, were called on to give their support. Ware traveled with the team to the Final Four in Atlanta, where he sat down with his teammates when they won the national championship game (which was later canceled due to the NCAA 2017 Scandal).

season 2013-14

Ware returned to competitive basketball for the first time during an exhibition game against Pikeville University, entering the game midway through the second half. Ware received a standing ovation after entering the game, and the other after taking his first shot, finishing with six points and four rebounds. He played in nine games that season.

Ware announced that he will redshirt the 2013-2014 season to continue his recovery.

He then decided to transfer to "move," and moved to school closer to the states of Georgia such as Tennessee, Georgia State, or Auburn.

On April 12, 2014, Ware was officially moved to Georgia State University. He started the 2014-15 season with two years of eligibility, and the NCAA gave Ware a waiver of his rules that required transfers to sit out for a year. Ware was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 Sunshine Son Basketball Tournament in which he led the State of Georgia to victory in the championship game, resulting in a GSU ticket to the NCAA Tournament where they defeated third seed Baylor in the first round before falling to Xavier in the second round.
