College career

2003-2006

Flynn redshirted the 2003 season at LSU. In 2004, he served as a third-string quarterback behind starter Marcus Randall and spare JaMarcus Russell. He also doubles as an LSU holder in placekicks. Flynn plays in all 12 matches, but only three matches as a quarterback. His first graduation in college went to Xavier Carter for a 67-yard touchdown against Mississippi State. Flynn also featured briefly at Capital One Bowl 2004, finishing 1 of 4 bait for 11 yards in 25-30 defeats against Iowa. He finished the season with 4 settlements on 10 attempts for 99 yards and 1 goal.

Randall's departure left Russell and Flynn fought for an early quarterback position in the 2005 season. Russell finally got the job, leaving Flynn in reserve. He played seven matches in the quarterback for the Tigers in 2005, completing 27 of 48 passes for 457 yards, 7 goals and 1 interception. In victory over North Texas, Flynn threw 7-of-7 perfectly for 139 yards and 3 goals, all in the fourth quarter. In the 2005 SEC Championship Race against Georgia Bulldogs, Russell began injured quarterbacks and Flynn completed the match. He was then awarded a nod to start for the Tigers in the 2005 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against the University of Miami Hurricanes. In that game, he led the Tamil Tigers to a 40-3 victory over Miami.

In 2006, Flynn returned to office as reserve for Russell, appearing in seven games. He finished 12 of 20 passes for 133 yards throughout the season, scoring 2 goals and 1 interception. Both touchdowns came in a 49-0 win against Kentucky on 14 October 2006.

2007: BCS National Championship season

With the departure of JaMarcus Russell, Flynn became a starter as a fifth year senior. He started every game of the season except the SEC Championships where he was injured. He finished the season with 2,407 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In addition, he rushed for 215 yards and 4 goals.

Flynn threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Byrd to win the game against Auburn on October 20, 2007 with 1 second left on the clock; Colt David kicked an extra point to make a final score of LSU 30, Auburn 24.

He then led the Tigers into a fourth-quarter comeback against Alabama. Flynn and the Tigers then defeated Louisiana Tech the following weekend and climbed back to # 1 spot after losing at # 1 Ohio State. The following week, the Tigers beat Ole Miss. In his last game at Tiger Stadium, Flynn and Tigers lost to Arkansas, seemingly missing a chance on the national title. However, LSU, without Flynn, defeated Tennessee for the SEC Championship, and losses by Missouri and West Virginia jumped over LSU back into the title game in New Orleans.

On January 7, 2008, Flynn led LSU to the BCS National Championship, defeating Ohio State 38-24. Flynn completed 19 of 27 passes and four goals, and was named offensive MVP. Tigers finished this season ranked No. 1 in the poll.

Professional career

Green Bay Packers

Flynn was designed by Green Bay Packers in the 7th round (209th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. On July 23, he signed a four-year contract through the 2011 season. In 2008, he won the competition for a back-up role for Aaron Rodgers, defeating fellow rookie and second-round pick Brian Brohm. Flynn is seen as less talented than Brohm because of Brohm's superior size, arm and foot speed, coupled with the fact that Brohm was selected much higher in the draft than with Flynn.

On December 19, 2010, Flynn made his first NFL start against the New England Patriots after starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers was not medically cleared to start. Flynn threw three goals through; respectively for John Kuhn, James Jones and Greg Jennings against New England, but threw an interception that was returned by Kyle Arrington for a touchdown in the second half. The game came down to the final round when Flynn, with the ball in the 15-yard New England line, lost when he was fired. The Packers lost the match 31-27. Flynn completed 23 of 37 passes for 254 yards in losses.

Flynn is a reserve for Aaron Rodgers when the Packers won the Super Bowl XLV.

On January 1, 2012, Flynn started the final game of the season against the Detroit Lions. He threw for 480 yards and 6 goals in a 45-41 victory, both of which set the Packers record of a single game.

Seattle Seahawks

On March 18, 2012, Flynn signed a three-year contract with Seattle Seahawks worth $ 20.5 million, with a guarantee of $ 9 million. He decided to use number 15, his number from college. Flynn competed with quarterback starting in 2011 Tarvaris Jackson and the third round NFL 2012 draft picked Russell Wilson for the starting quarterback position. When Wilson was given a starter name, it caused Flynn and his contract to be discarded.

Oakland Raiders

On April 2, 2013, Seahawks trades Flynn to Oakland Raiders for the 5th 2014 round selection and 2015 picks draft. He was brought in to compete with 2012 NFL draft pick fourth round Tyler Wilson and 2011 NFL third draft third-round pick Terrelle Pryor for early quarterback position , with Pryor winning early work in pre-season.

He was assigned number 15. Flynn relieved Pryor who was injured in Sunday's 3rd match against the Broncos, finishing 1 of 2 bait to 19 yards in a 37-21 loss. With Pryor's concussion preventing him from starting next week against the Redskins, Flynn started and finished 21 of 32 passes for 227 yards with one goal pass and one interception (which was returned for Redskins touchdown) in a 24-14 loss. A few days later, Raiders coach Dennis Allen announced Flynn's status drop to the third string behind Pryor and undrewed rookie Matt McGloin.

On October 7, 2013, Raiders released Flynn just six months after taking it into a starter.

Buffalo Bills

On October 14, 2013, Flynn worked with Buffalo Bills with a rookie and started EJ Manuel's quarterback 6-8 weeks with a knee injury, and Thad Lewis's reserve was injured in the game against Cincinnati Bengals. He signed a contract with the bill on October 14, 2013. He was assigned number 17. Flynn did not see any time playing in Buffalo and especially served as an emergency substitute should quarterback third midfielder Jeff Tuel also be injured. After Lewis and Manuel recovered from their injuries, Flynn was released on November 4, 2013.

Green Bay Packers (second task)

On November 12, 2013, due to injury to start quarterback Aaron Rodgers and quarterback Seneca Wallace, Flynn was re-signed by Green Bay as reserve for Scott Tolzien.

On November 24, 2013, Flynn was brought in to alleviate Tolzien who was struggling in the middle of the third quarter. Flynn rallied the team from a 23-7 deficit early in the fourth quarter. The match takes place overtime with a score of 23-23. The Packers scored first in extra-time with a field goal, but due to regular NFL regular regular season regulation, the Vikings got the ball back and also scored on the pitch. The match ends with a 26-26 tie.

On 27 November 2013, it was announced that Flynn would be the starting quarterback for the Thanksgiving match against the Detroit Lions. Flynn fought, only finishing 10 out of 20 attempts for 139 yards with one interception and two fumbles. He was fired 7 times, including one in the final zone for security. Packers lose 40-10.

On December 15, 2013, Flynn led the Packers from a 26-3 deficit against the Cowboys in the first half to come out with a 37-36 win. He led five consecutive touchdown drives in the second half, and tossed for 299 yards with 4 goals and 1 interception.

On December 22, 2013, Flynn threw for 232 yards with 1 goal and 1 interception in 38-31 loss to Pittsburgh Steelers. The contract expires at the end of the season. On April 15, 2014, Flynn was given a new 1-year contract with a team valued at $ 1.07 million. During his last season with the Green Bay Packers, Flynn appeared in four games, and finished the season with 66 yards, no goals and one interception. Flynn was not re-signed and became a free agent on March 8, 2015

New England Patriots

Flynn was signed by the New England Patriots on June 11, 2015. Flynn will add a veteran presence for second-year quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for four games due to Tom Brady's suspension. He was assigned number 8. On August 10, 2015, Patriots released Flynn to make room for Ryan Lindley.

New York Jets

Flynn was signed by the New York Jets on August 19, 2015 for a one-year contract. He was assigned number 5. On September 3, 2015, Flynn started the Jets' pre-season week 4 match against the Philadelphia Eagles, throwing 10-14 for 136 yards, 2 goals, and 1 interception. On September 5, 2015, Flynn was released.

Flynn worked for the Dallas Cowboys in September but was not signed.

New Orleans Saints

On November 15, 2015, Flynn was signed by the New Orleans Saints after back-up quarterback Luke McCown suffered a season-ending injury. 2015 marks the first season in Flynn's career where he does not appear in regular season matches.
