The Day of Self-Awareness Awareness ( SIAD ) (also known as Awareness Awareness Day ) is a grassroots annual global awareness event/campaign in March 1 , where on this day, and in the weeks leading up and after, some people choose to be more open about their own dangers, and awareness organizations make special efforts to raise awareness about self-harm and self-injury. Some people wear orange vigilance bands, write "LOVE" on their arms, drawing butterflies on their wrists with the awareness of the "Butterfly Project" bracelet or beaded bracelet to encourage awareness of self-harm. The goal of people observing SIAD is to undermine the general stereotype that hurts oneself and to educate medical professionals about the condition.
