Spine prevention , also known as spinal immobilization and spinal cord restriction , is an attempt to prevent spine movements in those at risk spinal injury. This was done in an attempt to prevent injury to the spinal cord. It is estimated that 2% of people with blunt trauma will have spinal injuries.

Usage
Spinal immobilization has historically been used routinely for people who have experienced physical trauma. There is; However, little evidence for routine use. Long spine boards are often used in prehospital environments as part of immobilizing the spine. Due to side effect concerns, the National EMS Doctors Association and the American College of Surgeons recommend their use only to those at high risk. These include: those with blunt trauma who have decreased levels of consciousness, pain or pain in the spine, those who are numb or weak are believed to be due to spinal injuries and those with significant trauma mechanisms who are drunk or have other major injuries.. In those with immobilized spinal cord injury that is definitely also recommended.
Immobilization of the neck
There is little evidence of high quality for immobilization of the neck before arriving at the hospital. Using a hard cervical collar and attaching someone to an EMS stretcher may be enough for those who walk after an accident or during long transport. In those with neck or head penetration of spinal immobilization trauma may increase the risk of death. If intubation is required the cervical collar should be removed and inline stabilization is provided.
Back and Low Immobilization
Spinal immobilization is not supported to penetrate the backward trauma including those caused by gunshot wounds.
Cervical spine cleansing
Paramedics can accurately determine who needs or does not require neck immobilization based on an algorithm. There are two main algorithms, Canadian C-spine and NEXUS rules. Canada's C-spine rules seem to be better. However, following good rules is natural.

Adverse effects
Caution with use includes: pain, agitation, and pressure ulcers. A systematic review found cervical-related skin ulcers from the device in 7 to 38%.
If the longboard is used, the pad is useful to reduce the discomfort due to pressure. A vacuum mattress and scoop board usually produce a lower pressure.
Action mechanism
Studies with volunteers have found that using hard-collar, head stabilization with rolled towel, and long board motions reduce board movement. What the impact is not clear.
